Before the spirit within him bloomed from his dying
flesh and his essence rose with angels to heaven,
Galahad made a parting wish: My father
must always remember this world is unstable.
The two had recently shared their lives. His father,
Lancelot, promised to attend to his own soul,
which needed saving after his dark affair
with Guenever, the queen, had wormed through Camelot.
The father’s glorious imperfection placed
him on a sword bridge in reaching his son’s side.
In jeopardy, Lancelot could petition heaven for help,
cry to his perfect son, however transfigured,
to remember the love his father had given, offer it
to the angels and, perhaps, bring more balance below.
